About Gynaecology
If you’ve been told your symptoms are “normal” or “just part of being a woman,” you’re not alone. And you don’t have to accept it.
Dr I-Ferne Tan offers specialised gynaecological care for women who’ve had enough of being ignored. As a leading private gynaecologist and fertility specialist in Sydney, Dr Tan cares for women experiencing heavy, irregular, or painful periods, endometriosis, fibroids, and other complex conditions. Known for her meticulous surgical skill, compassionate care, and clear explanations, Dr Tan provides answers, not assumptions.
“When you have someone who actually listens, and finally understand what’s going on in your body, it changes everything.”
Why Choose Dr I-Ferne Tan?
Choosing the right gynaecologist can feel overwhelming. You want someone who’s skilled, but also someone who listens. Treatment options often involve hormones or surgery - but which is better? And what about your future fertility? Dr Tan brings both sides of care together. She’s a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), with dual training in advanced laparoscopic surgery and fertility medicine. This means she can offer minimally invasive procedures that support faster recovery, while still protecting your fertility when it’s important to you.
She’s trusted by GPs across Sydney and consistently receives 5 star patient reviews on Healthshare, Australia’s leading independent medical review platform.
But what sets Dr Tan apart is her focus on you, not just your condition. You’ll receive a treatment plan that’s clear, considered, and focused on what matters most to you. She works closely with a network of experts to ensure your care is seamless and holistic, whether that’s managing pain, preserving fertility, regulating your period, or a second opinion.

FAQs
-
Blood tests, ultrasounds, and hysteroscopy are the most commonly used methods for assessment. I am one of the few gynaecologists in Australia who can offer hysteroscopy in my private rooms (known as office hysteroscopy or outpatient hysteroscopy) without general anaesthesia. It is a quick procedure with little discomfort, and any unusual findings can be dealt with on the spot.

This depends on your diagnosis and your primary goal. Most gynaecologists can fix a hormonal or uterine problem that has caused abnormal bleeding patterns, but they can't offer assisted reproduction if your goal is to conceive and you end up needing IVF. On the other hand, most fertility specialists aren't trained in advanced reproductive surgery and will need to refer you to a laparoscopic surgeon for difficult procedures. That's what I trained in both, to ensure my patients have all options and continuity of care.
